    Bernard Mallia

    Bernard Mallia is the CEO of Equinox Academy and Equinox Advisory, the President of the IRISS, the Vice-President of the MIICT, and a visiting lecturer at a number of education institutions. Lecturing appointments have included the UOM, the ILM, the ETC, LEAD Events, LEAD Training and the Equinox Academy.

    Bernard holds a first degree in Commerce with a specialisation in Public Policy & Economics, as well as an honours degree in Public & Private Sector Management from the University of Malta. He pursued post-graduate studies in Economics at the University of Edinburgh & at the European University where he earned an MSc. in Information Systems. He also holds diplomas in Computerised Bookkeeping (IAB), Project Management (CIC), and Advertising & Public Relations (CIC). Bernard is also a certified MS Office power-user & a SQL Server 2005 MCP.

    Bernard’s areas of specialisation include corporate strategy, holistic project management and appraisal, finance, regulation, information systems & IT, electronic communications, quantitative methods, data modelling and mining, and economics with a focus on regulation, incentive mechanism design, competition policy, economic policy, decision support, environmental & energy economics, development issues in small islands & health economics.

    Bernard has worked for several public, private & supranational organisations and brings to the table a wealth of technical and managerial experience, as well as broad insight and a well-entrenched network of associates.

    He has, in the past, provided consultancy services to the European Commission, Maltese agencies like the MGoz, the MMA, the MITC, the MRRA, the MFEI, the KMS, the ETC, the Malta Chamber Of Commerce, and the Competitive Malta Foundation, as well as international ones like the World Economic Forum and AEGON Asset Management.

    Bernard is also a member of the American Economic Association, the Competitive Malta Foundation, the PAEN and the World Economics Association.

    Director of Studies

    Charmaine Sultana is the Director of Studies at Equinox Academy. She has worked in human resources for the past decade gaining considerable experience in various sectors including services, manufacturing and retail in leading companies both locally and internationally.

    Charmaine earned an M.Sc. in Organisational Psychology from Birkbeck College, University of London, an Honours Degree in Psychology from University of Malta and a Diploma in Management from Maastricht School of Management. During her time at Birkbeck College, Charmaine was awarded the best dissertation of the year and was later invited to present her research project in a number of academic workshops, universities and consultancy firms. She has also gained certification in Level A (Ability) and B (Personality) psychometric testing.

    Charmaine’s speciality is the dynamics of working relationships, the development and coaching of promoted individuals, and interventions at the individual, group and organisational levels for continuous development and effectiveness of individuals, teams and organisations alike. This is backed up by both her academic achievement as well as her years of experience in the HR and Management field.

    Irene De Bernardin
    Coordinator of Studies

    Irene De Bernardin is the Projects Coordinator at Equinox Advisory and the Coordinator of Studies at Equinox Academy.

    Irene holds a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in International Sciences and Diplomatic Relations from the University of Trieste, in Italy, specializing in European Projects Management for International Cooperation. As a Junior Policy Officer at the Brussels Delegation of the Association of Chamber of Commerce for the Veneto Region (Italy), she analysed European Affairs to support small and medium enterprises, identifying the most interesting political instruments and funds made available for the Venetian region.

    Irene further enhanced her professional expertise by working for over three years as a Project Manager at Eurosportello Veneto, the European Information Centre hosted by the Association of the Chamber of Commerce of the Veneto Region. Irene is very fluent with EU funding instruments, especially those directly managed by the European Commission, in the field of energy, research & innovation, tourism, education and culture. She was technically and financially responsible for EU funded projects, assuring the sound management of foreseen activities, and contributed to the submission of several project proposals to various EU programmes. Moreover, she has ample experience with supporting small and medium enterprises and public authorities in developing their business ideas as well as guiding them to internationalisation. Irene also has ample experience with structural funds, particularly in European Regional Development Funds.

    Irene’s areas of interest include Proposal Writing and Project Management, EU Affairs and EU Funding Instruments, Research and Innovation, Tourism promotion, Education and Training programmes.
